something we must all strive to make special for our people.
the members of the board who will be responsible for Carnival 2008 is a group of
hard workers and i trust that they will get support from the different stakeholders
in order to make Carnival 2008 a success.
The foundation has already agreed that carnival will start on July 28th and end on
August 3rd 2008. members of the board are now meeting to put things in place and they
are calling on all promoters and persons that would like to organize events to
contact them. All promoters have until May 23rd 2008 to submit serious proposals to
the board of the foundation.
Commissioner Zagers mentioned that this year he is looking forward in carnival being
organized on a high level with exciting shows. The foundation has set up an e-mail
address where persons can contact them and the e-mail address is
sabaculturalfoundation@hotmail.com.
Persons interested in registering a troupe for carnival have up until May 30th 2008
to do so.
Leader of the Democratic Party of Saba, Dave Levenstone said that he welcomes the
appointment and establishment of the new foundation to take charge of carnival 2008.
Although rather late I have every confidence in the new board that they will be able
to do a good job. Bearing in mind that on the board of the foundation there are some
persons that have served on other carnival foundations in the past with one of them
being a former president. The board of the foundation truly reflects the four
villages on Saba and he is very happy that Commissioner Zagers has taken over some
of his ideas that he submitted to him last year. At the time I proposed to the
Commissioner to appoint members that hails from every village and I also proposed to
him to have the foundation serve as the foundation that would oversee Carnival and
Saba Day and all other cultural activities on the island. He congratulated
Commissioner Bruce Zagers for taking the initiative and he is now looking forward in
the island having a great carnival 2008.
Everyone must remember that carnival belongs to the people of Saba. We look forward
in all Sabans throughout the world returning home in July to have mass.
